Telehealth FAQs

It is a method for a practitioner to deliver a health care service where distance is a critical factor. It is similar to Zoom, FaceTime or Skype.

Patients with complaints can be assessed and managed by Chiropractors and Physiotherapists via Telehealth services; we reduce the strain on our Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Urgent Care Clinics and Family Physicians who have been working tirelessly for several weeks to deal with the spread of COVID-19. Telehealth allows our highly trained staff to continue to support and provide care for our existing patients even though we may not be able to physically connect with them at the moment.

*Please remember acute/urgent cases may be seen physically if deemed necessary by the practitioner, this is determined on a case by case basis.

Please set aside 45 minutes for an initial appointment (if you have never had an appointment with this Chiropractor at Wellness House before) and 20 minutes for follow up appointments if you are an existing patient of the clinic. Your Chiropractor will also likely be sending you an email after your visit with a summary of your exercises or advice.

*Please allocate time during the booking or prior to the appointment to fill in an intake form.

$60 For follow up sessions if you are an existing patient of Wellness House.

$95 Initial appointment for patients that have never seen a Chiropractor at Wellness House.

At the end of your visit you will receive a receipt by email the same as you would in the clinic. Many insurance plans are covering Telehealth visits at this point due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please double check with your insurance provider however, to the best of our knowledge the following insurance companies are covering Telehealth;

  •       Sunlife
  •       Canada Life
  •       Manulife
  •       Desjardins
  •       Green Shield
  •       Alberta Blue Cross
  •       Pacific Blue Cross
  •       Medavie Blue Cross

Follow the online booking buttons we have on our website, or by following this link.

You will need a computer or phone with a working camera and microphone and an internet connection. Telehealth is quite simple to use and most users will require no software, simply follow the secure link to your private appointment with your Chiropractor. If you are on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad) you will need to download the Jane Online Appointments app, available in the app store.  Please try to login to your appointment a few minutes early to identify any technical difficulties. If you have any difficulties please let your Chiropractor know at the phone number in your confirmation email.

If you are unsure of your internet speed, please check it first at fast.com. Ideally you will need a speed of 15Mbps or higher. If your connection speed is measured in Kbps you will have the option to turn off your video and do an audio only session.

Here is a video to help you get familiar to the process.

At Wellness House we take your privacy very seriously. We are taking every effort possible to secure your health information. We are using PHIPA compliant software and we will not record any sessions to protect your privacy. Our practitioners will ensure a private space on their end and we encourage you to find a private place to receive your appointment as well, avoiding public spaces.

While we are able to provide care for many situations through Telehealth, not everything is appropriate. Your Chiropractor will inform you if you do not meet the requirements for accessing this form of care. In this case we will direct you to the next best option for you. Examples of this include referring you to another medical professional or your condition may warrant an in person examination before proceeding.

While most of the treatment that we offer through Telehealth has very little risk as it focuses on education, lifestyle modification, and/or therapeutic exercise, should a emergency take place we aim to reduce the risk by;

  • Confirming your name, birthday and address at the beginning of the session incase emergency services need to be called
  • We will make recommendations to correct any unsafe environment we see to carry out our assessment and guided exercise
  • If you have balance issues or feel uneasy being alone during your exam and treatment you may ask a family member to be present

Telehealth allows our practitioners to connect with you remotely in a safe, secure environment. Telehealth clinical support has been shown to improve health outcomes including, reducing pain and improving function in individuals with spinal conditions, osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Your Chiropractor will monitor your progress, make modifications to the current care plan, address questions and issues related to your current complaint, address lifestyle-related behaviours (e.g., nutrition, sleep, stress management), and provide coaching and support.

Unfortunately at this time we are only able to see patients who reside in Ontario.

Despite our best efforts to ensure high encryption and secure technology, there is always a risk that the transmission could be breached and accessed by an unauthorized person. However, all our Telehealth sessions are provided using a secure, PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) compliant platform through Jane.

As Telehealth services are provided remotely, there is also a very mild risk of personal safety in that there is no practitioner directly with you to assist if you need. However, this would be no riskier than being at home alone. If you have significant mobility issues and/or do not feel safe being alone for care, we recommend you have someone present with you during your treatment.

We ask that you wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement and visual inspection.

Unfortunately at this time we are only able to see patients who reside in Ontario. Hopefully this will change shortly, we will notify you once this changes.
