Annika is very excited and grateful to be able to join the team at Wellness House and look forward be part of a dynamic team dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care.

Annika is a Functional Nutritionist and Educator. She is passionate about teaching a health promoting lifestyle and aims for root cause resolution for her clients.

The Functional Matrix is a tool created by the Institute for Functional Medicine and is at the core of Annika’s functional nutrition practice. A functional practice acknowledges that we are whole beings where body systems, bio-individuality, thoughts, emotions and our environment, are all interconnected and contribute to our state of health.

As the mother of two daughters and part of a family where autoimmunity and inflammatory conditions has touched at least three generations, including herself, she has a special interest in reversing, reducing and preventing conditions associated with chronic inflammation and autoimmunity.

Chronic inflammation has been linked to most degenerative conditions that are pervasive in today’s society. Those conditions include type 2 diabetes, depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease, along with autoimmune conditions such as Crohn’s disease, Rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

The importance of supporting women 40+ as they maneuver hormonal shifts along with demands from young families, career and aging parents, is also an area Annika is devoted to.

Annika entered the field as a holistic health professional more than 17 years ago. It was disabling stomach pain following the birth of her two daughters that first brought her to a career change. With a degree in economics and work in IT she began a new career that she quickly realized was her true passion. Annika healed her stomach quickly, but soon faced several other health challenges.

Her determination to find a way back to health and her refusal to accept what the conventional medical model had to offer as a long-term solution for chronic illness brought Annika to the functional approach of medicine and nutrition. She had to dig deep to learn how come back to an active life from chronic illness and how to live well on the autoimmune spectrum.

Annika meets her clients where they are and support them as they heal, while also empowering them with the knowledge, tools and skills they need to take an active role in the creation of their own health. For healing to be successful a partnership between the practitioner and the individual is essential, as well as co-operation with other health care practitioners.

Annika has earned several diplomas including Registered Holistic Nutritionist with Distinguished Merit (RHN) from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2003, Chartered Herbalist (CH) from Dominion Herbal College in 2001, and Homeopathy and Heilkunst from Hahneman College for Heilkunst in 2007.

In recent years Annika’s studies have included Environmental Health from Arizona Center of Integrative Medicine and with Environmental Toxins Expert Lara Adler, Nutrigenomics (Dr. Ben Lynch), Digestive Intensive (Andrea Nakayama CNC, CNE, CHHC) and Amino Acid Therapy (Julia Ross MA, MFT, NNTS).

Annika is a life-long student and continues to educate herself and follows the leaders within Functional Medicine, such as the renowned Dr. Kharrasian, Dr. Perlmutter and Dr. Hyman, among many others.

Annika began work in private practice in 2004 and is a member of the Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners (CANNP). In addition to working with clients one-on-one she also teaches group programs.
